Alternative to Cash

cellphonepayment.jpg

This is not a pretty photo but it has red in the foreground and a little bit in the background. However I have chosen to feature it as today’s Ruby photo for the cultural piece of information it contains. The sign in the middle is attached to a bus stop and reads: Pay your ticket with your cellphone. Something I find quite clever.

This photo was taken last week in the Belgian city if Kortrijk.

On Tuesdays, just post any photo you like (it must be one of your own) that contains the color RED and then link to this blog.

  1. This system of paying by cellphone certainly does look convenient. The sign is eye-catching, even if not beautiful. And seems to clearly state what it needs to say.

  2. But of course, there is no point in appealing your ticket in court – so pay it right away. Most people will agree to pay by phone, I hope that they deserved the ticket…

  3. Interesting payment option, Ilana. Personally, I’ll pass. Technology already tracks everything about us on our cell phone. I would hate to lay out a welcome mat for my bank account there too.

  4. Do they also have donations you can do by SMS over there? Here charities advertise donation campaigns on busses and you can SMS some word to some number and donate ten shekels. It’s quite convinient.

  5. Very interesting!

We have similar functions here – you can pay for parking your car by phone, for example, as well as the Congestion Charge for central London, which is supposed to limit traffic through deterrence – ie, if you have to pay, do you really want to drive into central London…!
