Purim Quiz – Question 1

Purim2.jpg.jpeg

Since Purim is about having fun, I thought I would post one question every day until we celebrate it next week.

In the Book of Esther, what “word” is conspicuously missing?

Bonus: What other book of the Tanakh (Bible) fails to mention it too?

  1. The word “G-d” is missing. That is why the Book of Esther is often considered a myth or a fairy tale, and not historical, by some. It is often thought of as a redaction, also.

Song of Songs would be the other Book.

  2. That’s right. I have prepared another question for tomorrow. Not a very difficult one either. In a way it is linked to the historical, or not, aspect of the Book of Esther.

  3. Love this idea! A question a night! But Jew Wishes got to the answer before I even read the question. Boo hoo.

I’ve heard various ideas about why no name of God in Esther. It struck me just now that the name of Moses is only mentioned once in the Haggadah; seems like the flip of the Purim Megillah.
