Paradise Park

After Kaaterskill Falls and The Family Markowitz , I ordered Paradise Park by Allegra Goodman and read it over Shabbat.

It is an amusing novel about a young woman’s quest for God. Having been brought up in a totally secular home, Sharon’s thirsts for spirituality and a need to feel fulfilled. Yet she does know where to look and needs to go through an array of experiences in the most unexpected places and the failures that necessarily follow before she finds a spiritual equilibrium.

However Sharon seems a bit shallow and childish and certainly lacks judgement when it comes to making choices and taking decisions, which makes her a less interesting character than Elizabeth Shulman in Kaaterskill Falls. A fine book for light reading rather than enlighting experience.
