Deafening Silence

gilad.jpgDefinition:

A silence or lack of response that reveals something significant, such as disapproval or a lack of enthusiasm.

A very apt definition to describe France’s lack of involvement in efforts to get Gilad Shalit released from Gaza. Like Ingrid Betancourt (who is both French and Columbian), Gilad holds dual citizenship (Israeli and French in his case).

This is something I had been meaning to post about from some time but since swedish chekchouka has just written about these two hostages, here is the link to her blog.

You can also sign an online petition asking that a portrait of Gilad be hung next to that of Ingrid Betancourt on the “Parvis de l’Hôtel de Ville” in Paris.

For a very different and more encouraging account, read parts one and two of Treppenwitz‘s story about an African correspondent.
